Topic : The scandal centers on revelations that journalists of Murdoch cooperation revealed at his top-selling British tabloid, News of the World, gathered information through a variety of possibly illegal endeavors that included phone hacking and bribery of police officers.
On 13 July the Independent produced a story with the title “Party leaders unite against Murdoch”. Under the title there is a video from the speech that the prime minister, Mr. Cameron stated his distress for the revealing of the sickness of the former Prime Minister's son from a scoop unleashed in The Sun newspaper. Mr. Cameron announced the creation of a single judge-led inquiry to deal both with the failure of the police to investigate the hacking allegations fully and the wider issues of press ethics. He also stressed that the investigations will continue under new staff members of the Metropolitan police until they get to the bottom of the problem. Under the title lie share buttons, like twitter, Facebook, Digg, D.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s etc that increase the interactivity between the readers and the journalist and make the public more involved. The text follows analyzing the issue of unity between the three main political parties against Rupert Murdoch and his business empire. The party leaders will order their MPs to vote for a motion calling Mr Murdoch to abandon his takeover bid for BSkyB in the wake of the hacking scandal. At the right of the text there is a photo with the three leaders of the main parties that shows them speaking intensively wanting to stress the need for a solution. The photo adds surely to the story and can be enlarged. The is also the section of relevant stories that only online someone was the ability to click on the headlines and link to relevant stories to have a holistic view of the subject. At the end of the article there are the two most popular share buttons (Facebook, Twitter) that show how many people have “tweeted “the article and how many have recommended it. Below those buttons, there are also two other options emailing or printing the article, options that are not provided to the newspaper and television medium.
On 14th of July, the phone-hacking scandal still is the dominant issue of the website. The title of the story is:“Murdoch’s agree to give evidence” analyses that Rupert Murdoch and his son James under the pressure from MPs agreed to give evidence next week to a Commons committee concerning the scandal. There is no video in this article but the same pattern is followed as I explained earlier. The photo that is included is not from the Murdock family but from the News International Chief Executive Rebekah Brooks stated that she has agreed to give evidence to MPs. The difference between the title and the introduction of another person through the photo is very important as the photo indicates that the person shown is another story that is equally important to the title.
